Make a Wish youngster Brock Marvin of Elizabethtown, N.Y., at
Bob Hope Classic PGA TOUR event in La Quinta, Calif.
The Bob Hope Classic is honoring 15-year-old Brock Marvin of
Elizabethtown, N.Y. (near Lake Placid), who suffers from Familial
Dialated Cardiomyopathy. Brock and his family (his father, Walter,
and his brother, Connor, 12) are at the tournament Wednesday
through Sunday. The tournament is providing them with a
courtesy van for transportation and access to the Bob Hope Club
behind the 18th green. Brock may hit some balls at the practice
range and will meet and spend time with tournament host Arnold
Palmer. PGA TOUR staff will assist with introductions to players.
Brock's heart is 4 1/2 times the normal size and has about a 40%
output. He suffered a major heart attack in 2008. He has a
defibrillator and pacemaker. These devices are working to make
his heart work more efficiently, so he has been taken off the heart
transplant list. A stem cell transplant could be an option in the
future.
